Tapper, ColecoVision

The 1984 ColecoVision version of Bally Midway‘s famous Tapper is a pretty good replica of the original bar-tending game. It’s light years ahead of the Atari 2600 version and also better than most of its other peers.

The graphics in Tapper are basic but detailed. Some of the patron sprites are a little indistinct, but the main character is the obvious stand-out and is well-animated and full of character.

Believe it or not, the gameplay in ColecoVision Tapper is absorbing enough to warrant prolonged play even today. This is a good port with responsive controls and is not far off the arcade game itself in terms of quality.
