Shinobi II: The Silent Fury is the sequel to the first Shinobi on the Game Gear and it was first published by Sega in 1992.
It’s a scrolling platform action game where you control Joe Musashi on a mission to retrieve five elemental crystals that have been stolen by the enemy and hidden across different locations in the game.
The first four stages can be played in any order, and – after defeating the boss in each of these four stages – Musashi is joined by various allies who the player can then control. These four ally ninja each have different weapons and abilities and they allow access to different parts of the levels, so some stages must be played more than once in order to access certain areas that were not previously accessible.
After the first four crystals have been collected the player then gains access to the enemy’s base, where the fifth crystal is being held by the final boss.
Shinobi II: The Silent Fury is a playable, great-looking platform game with responsive controls and well-balanced gameplay. It’s considered to be one of the best games on the Game Gear.
