Lords of Midnight, ZX Spectrum

The late Mike Singleton‘s classic Lords of Midnight is a pioneering fantasy war game with strategy and RPG overtones. It was first released in 1984 on the ZX Spectrum by Beyond Software and immediately became a cult hit.

The game features a groundbreaking technique called “Landscaping”, to render the first-person playfield. The aim of the game is to find and recruit allies to fight a war against an evil Witch King called Doomdark.

Lords of Midnight was followed by an equally groundbreaking sequel in 1985, called Doomdark’s Revenge, and was also re-made for modern platforms by Chris Wild in 2012.
