The Nintendo Game Boy version of Qix was developed by Minakuchi Engineering. It was first published by Nintendo in 1990.
Qix as an arcade game works really well. As a handheld game it arguably works even better.
The aim is to draw boxes on the screen, capturing areas, while avoiding touching the ‘Qix‘, which moves around on-screen.
Even on a small screen, in black and white, the game plays great. It’s a rather basic interpretation of Qix, but the controls are good and the difficulty curve well-judged. It actually starts off fairly easy, but by level five you’ll have two Qixes to deal with.
Like a lot of Game Boy games, Qix is a “more-ish” game that works well in short blasts.
