The Sega Master System version of Atari‘s Marble Madness was programmed by Steve Lamb and published by Tengen in 1992 and it is a relatively decent port overall.
Graphically and gameplay-wise, it is fairly accurate, with the stylised isometric backdrops being well recreated and the marble-rolling controls being responsive. Difficulty can be set to between zero (lowest) and seven (highest), which increases/reduces the amount of time you have to complete each level.
The Master System port does have some reductions in detail compared to the original; for example the wave machine on level three doesn’t move and isn’t animated (as it is in the arcade version).
While this is a decent enough conversion of Marble Madness it does seem like a game with limited longevity. It may take some time – and considerable skill – to beat the game, but the levels are short and there aren’t many of them, which could be a problem for some.
