This 1995 Game Gear Judge Dredd game is based on the film of the same name starring Sylvester Stallone. It was developed by Probe Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment.
It’s a fairly simple platform game and Judge Dredd is agile enough that the game flows well through the various stages.
The connection between the comics and this game is a tentative one, though. Dredd must make his way through various levels, completing his primary objective and making his way to the exit. Passwords are available on later levels so that earlier ones can be skipped
Judge Dredd on the Game Gear has decent graphics and sound. The gameplay isn’t bad either. The levels seem bigger than those in the Game Boy version, and also seem to mirror those in the original Super Nintendo version more closely, although there are still some differences between them.
Overall this is good conversion of an okay game. It’s not a classic, but it is reasonably absorbing for a handheld platformer.
