Lode Runner, BBC Micro

Lode Runner on the BBC Micro was part of the Software Projects conversion releases of 1984 and is another fine release on the Lode Runner franchise train.

Programmer T. Lanigan did a good job of translating Doug Smith‘s original game onto the BBC Micro. The platforming action is as challenging and exciting as it should be, and all 160 levels are available to play from the beginning.

At times the controls seem a little ‘sticky’, meaning: you get stuck on something, instead of moving smoothly by, which can play havoc with the gameplay, which requires quick reactions. Another problem with the controls is that they are keyboard only, and are not redefinable, which can sometimes cause problems when playing in an emulator. Otherwise, this is a very competent 8-bit version of Lode Runner.
