Ms. Pac-Man, Game Gear

Developed by Namco Hometek, Inc. and published by Namco in 1993, the Game Gear version of Ms. Pac-Man is arguably the best handheld version of the classic arcade game. Maybe even the best home version entirely.

Like the Game Boy version of Ms. Pac-Man, the Game Gear version has a scrolling screen, although this port doesn’t have the unnecessary side panel. And that makes a big difference.

Great fun to play, for one or two players, Ms. Pac-Man has two game modes: Arcade and Hard.

Note: many websites cite a release date of 1995 for this conversion, which I believe is wrong. Why would Namco release it two years after the almost identical Game Boy version? That doesn’t make sense. Also: the game’s manual says 1993, so that’s what I’m going with. I think the 1995 citations are all wrong.
