Bruce Lee: Return of Fury, Commodore 64

Released in 2019 by Megastyle, Bruce Lee: Return of Fury is another great homebrew fan tribute sequel to Ron J. Fortier and Kelly Day‘s classic action platformer, Bruce Lee.

It features a whole new set of levels, and three-player simultaneous gameplay (with the right adapter), but leaves the core of Bruce Lee‘s gameplay mostly intact.

Bruce Lee: Return of Fury is a commendable effort, but for some reason Bruce‘s movement feels a bit sluggish, and his collision detection with platforms seems a bit problematic on occasion. This is most apparent after playing this game directly after playing Bruce Lee II, which is what I did.

Still, it’s fun to try to make progress through the game, while at the same time trying to outwit the dozy ninja and the hapless Green Yamo. And it’s great to see the love for the original Bruce Lee shown in the form of another fan sequel. The more, the merrier, I say.

It’s worth noting that there are two versions of Return of Fury available. The Megastyle version has a (frankly amazing) loading screen; a blue title screen, and a grey high score bar at the top of the screen, but apparently contains a game-breaking bug. The Rebel Android “Plus” version is bug-fixed, with a black score bar and a custom font, plus a few small gameplay tweaks, but has no loading screen. I’ve included screenshots of both here, for comparison.
