Epyx‘s Super Cycle first came out for the Commodore 64 in 1986. It was critically well-received and sold reasonably well. I remember buying the cassette version and very much enjoying it.
As a racing game it was definitely ‘next gen’ back in 1986. Many early racing games (especially bike racing games) were extremely archaic and difficult to control. Super Cycle made it easy; kept the frame rate fast, and gave a good impression of the track moving around.
That said: there are no hills in Super Cycle (like you might find in Road Rash) – hills were for the next generation of racing games…
Super Cycle is super slick – in the tradition of most Epyx releases – and is still fun to play now. Those wanting undulations may want to look elsewhere though…
