Qix, Commodore 64

The C64 version of Taito‘s classic arcade game, Qix, was developed by Threshold Research and published in 1989 – in North America only – by Taito themselves.

Qix is a simple but compelling game. You control a small ‘marker’ that can draw lines inside a boxed area, and the aim is to fill a target percentage of the screen, while avoiding contact with a moving shape inside the box (the actual “Qix” itself), or the fuses that move around the outskirts.

The C64 port of Qix is playable, challenging and well-presented, but does have limited longevity. The slow movement of the marker will frustrate some, but if you can play the game without becoming too greedy, then you might make it to the higher levels, where the Qix will multiply, making the screen even more difficult to complete.
