The 1982 VIC-20 version of Dan Gorlin‘s Choplifter was coded by Tom Griner for Creative Software, and it has to be said that it is by far the worst version of Choplifter out there.
This is a stunted, poor approximation of Choplifter that features none of the subtle movement of the helicopter (there’s zero inertia, which makes the game feel DOA to me).
The graphics are flickery and poorly-drawn; the gameplay is extremely bare bones, and the sound is minimal, apart from the constant sound of the rotor blades (which quickly becomes annoying).
The only good thing about the VIC-20 version of Choplifter is the fact that you can cycle through different colours for the sprites and text by pressing the function keys. Other than that, this is a travesty of port. The VIC-20, I’m sure, could do much better than this in the right hands.
