Super Street Fighter II Turbo, 3DO

The 3DO has a surprisingly good port of Capcom‘s classic beat ’em up, Super Street Fighter II. It was released as Super Street Fighter II Turbo and features a few tweaks that differentiate it from other versions of the game, such as fight speed (three settings) and a difficulty slider (eight settings).

The game has sixteen combatants (Cammy, Fei-Long, Dee Jay, T. Hawk, Ryu, E. Honda, Blanka, Guile, Ken, Chun Li, Zangief, Dhalsim, Balrog, Vega, Sagat, M. Bison), plus an unlockable seventeenth – Akuma.

There are two modes of play: Super Battle sees you fighting computer-controlled opponents in a knock-out championship, and Versus Battle allows you to fight it out with a second player.

Every time you do a special move the “Super Move Gauge” increases, and when it is full you can initiate a “Super Move” to unleash a deadly final attack. This of course requires that you know the button combinations to do that, and they’re all detailed in full in the game’s manual.

Other options include the ability to turn a bout’s time limit on or off, and also customisable gamepad and button settings.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo on the 3DO was published in North America, Europe and Japan by Panasonic (under its original name of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.), in 1994.
