The Atari 5200 version of Williams Electronics‘ classic arcade shooter, Robotron: 2084, was published by Atari, Inc. in 1983.
The aim is to blast waves of killer robots and save the humans that are in peril. Touching anything hostile results in the loss of a life and when the bullets start flying the game becomes really challenging.
Robotron: 2084 has five skill levels and 99 waves in total, although getting into double figures is a tough ask in itself.
The Atari 5200 version came with a “controller holder”, which allowed you to clip two joysticks together and use them simultaneously (one for movement and one for directional fire – just like in the arcade game), which was pretty neat. The game can still be played with one joystick, though.
