Kirby’s Pinball Land DX is brilliant ROM hack by “kkzero” that was first released in January 2022. What it does is modify the code of the original Game Boy game to make it playable on the Game Boy Color, in full colour. Which is pretty amazing.

This hack – and kkzero‘s other great Kirby hack, Kirby’s Dream Land 2 DX – turn what were once monochrome games into a riot of colour, and they seriously revitalise these great classics into games that are worth playing (or re-playing) again now.

Kirby’s Pinball Land is one of the best pinball games on the Game Boy. It has three different tables (which you can travel between in-game), and a bunch of secret bonus screens in each of them, and is high on playability, cuteness, and challenge. While the original black and white version of this game is still great, this DX version is now the best way to play it. And, according to the programmer’s notes, it also works on real hardware.

The programmer also reveals in his notes that Kirby’s Pinball Land also has some extra game modes when the following are input on the title screen: Left + Select + B/A leads to “Hub world warp stars to Bonus Games”, and Right + Select + B/A leads to “Hub world warp stars to bosses”. Which is nice to know.

Kirby’s Pinball Land DX is another great ROM hack that every fan of the Kirby series should download, apply and play.
