Loco, Commodore 64

Published by Alligata Software in 1984, Loco is a side-scrolling train-based shooter that is basically a clone of a 1982 Sega arcade game called Super Locomotive.

Although not original, Loco was probably the game that gave developer Tony Crowther his early breakthrough in the video games business. With its colourful, smooth-moving graphics, and appealing soundtrack (another “tribute” – this time to Jean-Michel Jarre‘s Oxygène) it was a hit with gamers of all ages.

Note: I have seen some some people online saying that other games are a “direct clone” of Loco, without even knowing that Loco itself is a complete rip-off of another game… Haha. There’s no accounting for a lack of awareness in some people… 🙂
