Like the majority of Android games (although certainly not all of them), this 2010 mobile version of Sega‘s classic Super Monkey Ball is available as an advertisement-filled free version, or a paid version with no ads.
Playing the game with ads is – surprise, surprise – a major pain in the arse, so you’ll have to deal with constant interruptions, unless you pay to unlock it. If you’re a big Super Monkey Ball fan, and you like motion control games, then buy it. I have to say that I didn’t much like the controls, so I didn’t buy it…
Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition looks great, though, and the levels are well-designed. Many of the minigames seen in the GameCube originals are included (including golf, bowling and target), and some of them are even multiplayer. Overall, Sakura Edition is a decent port. If you like ’tilt’ motion control games, then this is probably one of the best examples of that type of game on Android.
Note: The last time I checked the Google Play store, I couldn’t find this game, so maybe it’s been de-listed for some reason. I did see an APK on archive.org, although I haven’t installed it. I got the version I have on my tablet from the Google Play store years ago. To me, it further demonstrates how important game preservation is for games that can and do disappear from sale.
