The SG-1000 version of Tehkan‘s classic Bomb Jack was developed and published by Sega in 1985.
While the game plays well enough the sprites sometimes blend into the backgrounds and are difficult to see, which could be because of the SG-1000‘s colour limitations. This seems to happen mostly when a power-up is collected and Bomb Jack turns blue. If there are blue areas in the background then this results in blue-on-blue, which is not ideal.
The bombs, which should be collected in order (for the most points), aren’t animated, but are shown inside black boxes instead, and it can be difficult to see which fuse is lit (indicating the bomb to collect next).
The SG-1000 version of Bomb Jack is playable and the graphics and sound are pretty good (for an early video game console), but the colour issues let it down a little.
If you want to play Bomb Jack now then the original arcade version is the one to go for.
