Return of the Jedi: Death Star Battle is a space shoot ’em up based on the famous second Star Wars sequel from 1983 and in it you control the Millennium Falcon on a mission to destroy the Empire’s second attempt at a Death Star.
The game is split into two stages. On the first stage you must shoot enemy TIE Fighters and wait for an opportunity to slip through a gap in the force field. In the second stage you must shoot your way to the Death Star’s reactor core, destroy it, then escape the resulting explosion.
While developer/publisher Parker Brothers should be commended for at least trying something different, Death Star Battle doesn’t really provide much in terms of excitement or spectacle. It’s one of those early ’80s video games that had high aspirations (and nice cover art), but could never (and never did) live up to expectations. When all is said and done this is a basic and mostly uneventful space shooter with dodgy graphics.
Some Star Wars fans might get a nostalgia high for thirty minutes or so, but most other people will probably get bored of Death Star Battle much more quickly.
